Emulsion
Nine film recipes for the GR IV and GR IIIx. Pick one, and the camera sets the Film Look and the grain together.
Nine stocks, two menus
Each recipe is a Film Look with grain set for your camera. Choose one from Recipe A or Recipe B in the GRK menu. The viewfinder shows its name, with a * if you change a setting afterwards.
Recipe A
Colour negativeRecipe B
Black-and-white, slide and cinemaPreviews are simulated on the photographer's JPEGs with each look's colour table. They show no grain. Results in camera differ a little, and more on the GR IV, because the looks were fitted on a GR III.
Made for shooting
One choice, whole look
A recipe sets the Film Look, grain strength and grain size at once. Reset brings it back after you experiment.
Tuned per camera
The GR IIIx renders grain weaker than the GR IV at the same setting, so its recipes set grain one step stronger.
Looks found by name
Recipes find their look by a stable ID, not by its place in the list, so adding or removing looks never swaps one recipe for another.
Palette Card
Optional swatches of a photo's main colours along the bottom, the side or as dots, with hex codes if you like. Off by default.
Onion Skin
A faint copy of your last shot, or a held reference, over the live view: for stop-motion, panoramas and then-and-now pairs.
Nothing permanent
Emulsion runs from the SD card, like GRKit. It never writes to the camera's firmware. Take the card out and the camera is stock.
Ten minutes, one card
New install
- Update the camera to a supported firmware (below) and turn it off.
- Copy the contents of
SD_ROOTfrom the ZIP to the root of the SD card. - Insert the card. Hold MENU while you turn the camera on, and wait until it turns itself off. This turns on SD scripts, once.
- Turn the camera on normally. Open ADJ, then GRK, and choose a recipe from Recipe A or Recipe B.
Coming from GRKit or an earlier Emulsion?

Beta 1
Each ZIP holds the card files, an installation guide, the licences of the looks, and SHA-256 checksums.
GR IIIx
Download for GR IIIxBeta: three of the nine recipes (Portra 400, Ektar 100, HP5 Plus 400) are checked on a camera; the other six are starting points. Use it at your own risk. If the camera stops during startup, take the card out, add an empty file GRKIT/SAFE, and follow GRKit's recovery guide.
Questions
Is this real film?
No. Each look is a colour model fitted to a simulation or a LUT of the stock. It aims for the character of the film, not a perfect match.
How is it different from GRKit?
GRKit provides the Film Looks, grain and modules. Emulsion adds the recipes, a Provia 100F look, the Palette Card and Onion Skin modules, and per-camera grain. It is not an official GRKit release.
Can I tell which recipe a photo used?
Yes, for the look: GRKit records it in the photo's EXIF, so a reader can name it. Grain is not recorded.
Does it work with RAW?
The look and the grain apply to JPEGs. A DNG keeps the plain sensor data, as usual.
